Thank you Gary for all your years at Alta Convenience store #3106. And, if his “honey do’s” do get done, he hopes to spend time in his garden and maybe even make it to the local reservoir for some fishing. #Pester marketing company plusWith his three adult children, Lynn, Sandra and Larry, plus grandkids Craig and Sherie, Gary now has more time to spend with his close knit family. They have lived and raised their three children in the same house that he and his father-inlaw built. Gary kiddingly continues, “Phyllis is about to run me off.” Not likely though-after all, they have been married since 1957, first meeting while attending rival high schools in Pueblo. In attendance were managers, ASMs, and home office personnel. a longories.” good mem -gary Gary Caffey, front row - third from the left, at his October 31st retirement party. However, he jokingly mentioned that since his retirement he has developed a-shall we say-aversion to “honey do’s – that I don’t do at all!” “He will be missed by his loyal customers and dedicated employees.” More Time for Honey Do’s? Since trading in his store keys, Gary now has more time to spend with his wife Phyllis and his immediate family, all of whom live in Pueblo. Over the years, which he describes as “hard to keep track of,” Gary has trained and managed scores of young men and women, many of whom, according to Gary “were like my own kids.” “Gary has been a long standing fixture at store #3106 in Pueblo,” states Dennis Dirkse, Gary’s long-time and former ASM. Starting with the Cliff Brice Company as a store cashier, Gary worked his way up to manager, eventually taking over the Elizabeth store a year prior to Pester’s acquisition of the location in 2001. Gary caffey retires from alta convenience After 29 years in the convenience store business, Gary Caffey, now-retired manager of store #3106 on Elizabeth Street in Pueblo, CO, left the hustle and bustle of c-store life to enjoy less of the pre-dawn hours and a little more shut-eye. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else. Thanks again for all that you do, Rich Spresser As we begin 2014, buckle up, as we know it will be a very exciting year bringing great possibilities and great opportunities. As I have tried to say in the past, a company is only as good as the people who make up the company and we have many great people throughout every area of our company. This number has continued to grow particularly as we have added stores and store personnel. As we begin 2014, we now have approximately 565 employees throughout the company. Again, it will be exciting to look back at this time next year to see where this side of our business has grown and where it has taken us. The lubes side of our business is also primed for a good growth year as a strong foundation has been established with both physical facilities and a strong sales team. The wholesale fuels business has seen tremendous growth over the last few years both in the Colorado and New Mexico markets with the future looking extremely bright for that area of our business as we potentially look at expanding our sales efforts into Utah and possibly Kansas. Knows what we will see at this time next year when it comes to additional retail stores? The areas we know we will see continued growth are in our wholesale fuels business and in our lubes business. We have had years where we added stores, much like last year, and we have had years where we have not added any stores to our directly operated retail. I often tell people that we never have entered a new year with a specific target for store growth. As with most change and growth, it did not come without some real challenges at times but at the end of the day we finished a very exciting 2013 with great possibilities ahead of us for 2014. Probably the biggest change we saw in 2013 was the implementation of the Pester ESOP, where many employees within the company became actual owners of the company. We saw the addition of 7 new retail stores we saw the completion of the new lubes and truck maintenance shop in Pueblo, the move of the corporate office and the addition of many new customers being generated on the wholesale side of the business. As we look back on this past year we saw many changes. PRESIDENT’S PEN Welcome to 2014 - the beginning of what I am sure will be a very exciting year.
